MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University women's soccer team spotted Miami a one-goal lead but scored two unanswered goals as the Chippewas went on to a 2-1 victory over MU on Sunday afternoon.
The Chippewas improve to 4-3-2 for the season and are 3-2-1 in the Mid-American Conference. Miami falls to 3-5-1 for the year and are 2-3-0 in MAC action.
Miami got on the board first but Rachel Snyder evened it up before the half. Snyder responded to MU's first goal at the 30:25 mark when a bounding ball went over MU goalie Megan Ortner.
Jacquie Lacek got the match-winner when she received a cross on the left side from Snyder. Lacek walked in and snuck it by Ortner, hitting the far right side for the goal.
Miami came close to sending it into overtime when Kathleen Vistica headed a ball off a cornerkick in the match's final two minutes of play. But, it hit the right post and bounced out.
The RedHawks got on the board first when Vistica split the defense at the 3:40 mark and hit the far left side, beating the outstretched Anne Decker.
Decker won her third game out the last four starts. She made five saves and allowed only one goal. Her counterpart, Ortner, took the loss and made four saves. She allowed both CMU goals.
CMU returns to action when it plays a nonconference tilt at Illinois State on Friday, October 3. The Chippewas return home on Sunday, October 5, to host MAC rival Eastern Michigan. Match time at the CMU Soccer Complex is set for 1 p.m.
