Soccer Tallies First Win Of The Season

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Stacy Downing collected three points as the Central Michigan University soccer team posted its first win for the season, a 2-1 overtime decision over Cincinnati this evening.
CMU ups its record to 1-1-1 while Cincinnati, the No. 8-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region according to SoccerBuzz.com, gets its first blemish of the season at 2-1.
Downing's three-point evening began by scoring the match-tying goal. She completed the outstanding effort by tallying an assist on the game-winner in overtime.
While Downing's foot was the hottest for the Chippewas, it was freshman midfielder Rosa Maria Rago who came up big in overtime. She found the back of the net at 106:08 for the sudden victory. Downing centered the pass to Rago who scored the goal for the sudden victory. It was Rago's first career collegiate goal.
Cincinnati got on the board first at the 10-minute mark, and held the 1-0 victory at the end of the half. However, Downing evened the match in the 54th minute. Cari VanDyck got the assist on Downing's score.
Downing led the team with three shots, all of which were on net.
Kari Alexander got the nod in net and played the entire match. She scored her first victory of the season making two saves on three shots. CMU launched seven shots, six of which were on net.
CMU will take the rest of the weekend off before it launches the conference season. The Chippewas will return to action on Friday, September 12, when they play at Bowling Green.
