OXFORD, Ohio - The short-handed Central Michigan University soccer team fell at Miami on Sunday afternoon, 3-1.
CMU played without senior Lisa Taube and sophomore Alison Heydorn. Even with the loss, CMU will still host a first-round match in the Mid-American Conference tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 2. The Chippewas will either be the third or fourth seed with Kent State as the top-seed and Ohio the No. 2-seed. CMU finishes the conference schedule 6-3-3 with 21 points.
Miami forward Ashley Swinehart showed why she was the 2003 MAC "Player of the Year," notching all three RedHawk goals. Swinehart got Miami on the board in the 12th minute, than scored two minutes later to give it a 2-0 lead. Her final goal came in the 57th minute.
Jessie Jandasek score CMU's lone goal of the match. It came in the 64th minute off an assist from Rosamaria Rago.
CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker made three saves in the match, as did RedHawk keeper Megan Ortner.
Miami out shot CMU, 11-7, and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Chippewas travel to non-conference foe Valparaiso for its lone match next weekend. The two teams tangle on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m.
