CMU Captures 75-64 Win Over Illinois-Chicago

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Junior Chasidy Myers tallied career highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds to help lead Central Michigan University to a 75-64 win over the University of Illinois-Chicago here Sunday afternoon.
The win improves CMU's record to 5-3 for the season while the Flames fall to 1-7.
Trailing by a 33-32 margin at the half, CMU took control late in the second half and pulled away behind some excellent shooting. The Chippewas, shooting 45.5 percent for the season coming into the game, meshed 29-of-55 for 52.7 percent.
The Chippewas held a 58-50 lead with 6:06 to play only to have UIC drill three straight threes to take the lead at 59-58 with 4:25 remaining.
However, Casey Manning came right back to score on a layup to give CMU the lead for good at 60-59 with 4:10 to go. The Chippewas outscored the Flames 17-5 to finish the game.
CMU was led by Manning with 21 points to go along with six steals, four rebounds and three assists. Myers hit 7-of-10 from the field for her 19 points while Ann Skufca was the only other Chippewa in double digits with 14.
Game-high scoring honors went to UIC sophomore LaShonda Grant in her first game of the season. She drilled 9-of-18 from the floor, including 4-of-9 threes, for 23 points. Jacquay Holmes added 14 and Chastity Quinn 10 points and 11 caroms.
The Flames hit 25-of-63 from the field for 39.7 percent. UIC finished with one more turnover than CMU, 18-17, and the Chippewas held a 35-34 edge in rebounding.
The Chippewas are idle for final exams until a Dec. 20 game at Detroit. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
