Titans Hot Second-Half shooting Downs Chippewas, 62-47

DETROIT - A hot-shooting University of Detroit squad overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat the Central Michigan University women's basketball team at home on Monday evening, 62-47.
UDM used a 14-4 run in the first seven-and-a-half minutes of the second frame for its first lead of the game. After CMU pulled back ahead at 38-37, the Titans put the game away with a 17-4 run midway through the period to make the score 54-42.
CMU falls to 5-4 while Detroit improves to 2-7.
The Titans shot .630 percent (17-of-27) in the second period after shooting just .313 percent (10-for-32) in the first. It was just the second time all season that Detroit shot above .500 percent in a half. UDM also dished out nine assists compared to just four turnovers in the second. Joanna Cooper and Lindsey Pasquinzo led the Titans's charge with 14 and 11 points, respectively, in the second. Both were held scoreless in the first.
The Chippewas didn't help themselves much in the second because as UDM's shooting percentage soared, CMU's soured. The Maroon and Gold were held without a basket the first four minutes of the second and shot just .273 percent (6-for-22) in the frame. CMU was also hampered by turnovers in the second, committing 16 after the break
One bright spot for CMU was its free throw percentage as it set a school record going a perfect 11-for-11 from the line. Casey Manning was a perfect 6-of-6 to lead CMU. Detroit was also perfect from the charity stripe, going 6-for-6.
Manning was also the Chippewas leading scorer with 14 points. The Southgate native also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. The only other CMU player in double-digits was Chasidy Myers with 10 points. Myers has now scored in double figures in eight of CMU's nine games.
Detroit's Katie Solner had a game-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She scored 13 of UDM's 23 first half point to keep the Titans close.
The Chippewas led 29-23 at the break after a first half where both teams posted similar numbers. Both teams shot .313 percent from the floor with four assists and seven turnovers. The difference in the frame was CMU was a perfect 6-of-6 from the line while Detroit was just 2-for-2.
CMU jumped out to an early 19-10 lead after a 9-0 run midway through the first half. Manning scored seven of those nine points.
The Chippewas held a 38-29 edge on the glass with CMU collecting 17 offensive rebounds. The Titans had 14 steals compared to just six for CMU and UDM notched six blocks while the Chippewas had just three.
The Chippewas take a short break for the holidays before their next contest, a game at Big Ten-foe Illinois on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST.
