CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois captured an 82-44 women's basketball win over Central Michigan Unversity here Tuesday night.
The Chippewas drop to 5-5 for the season while the Illini improve 8-2.
CMU trailed by 27 points at the half, 52-25. Illinois shot 73 percent from the field in the first half on 21-of-29.
No Chippewa player reached double digits in the lopsided decision. Casey Manning led the way with nine points followed by Sharonda Hurd with six and Candace Wilson and Dana Westover with five apiece.
CMU shot under 33 percent from the field on 19-of-58, and had just one assist. The Chippewas were 5-of-11 from the free throw line, too.
Illinois, on the other hand, meshed 35-of-61 for 57 percent and had 17 assists. Tiffanie Guthrie and Angelina Williams powered the Illini with 14 each.
Illinois had seven blocked shots to one for CMU and held a 39-30 edge in rebounding. Hurd had seven for the Chippewas.
"Illinois hurt us in transition and offensive putbacks," said CMU head coach Eileen Kleinfelter. "We would have loved to have won this game but it would have been a huge upset.
"We still have a chance to reach one of our goals and that's to finish above .500 in the preseason."
The Chippewas remain on the road when they play at St. Louis on Thursday, Dec. 30. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (EST).
