Chippewa Women Roll to 88-51 Win

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Fifteen players scored here Thursday night in leading the Central Michigan University women's basketball team to an 88-51 victory over Cleveland State University.
The win upped the Chippewa record to 3-2 while the visiting Vikings fell to 0-6.
CMU exploded out to a 41-26 halftime lead and never looked back as ir shot 55.2 percent from the floor on 32-of-58. CSU shot just 31.3 percent on 20-of-64.
Freshman point guard Candace Wilson made the most of her first career start with a career-high 12 points for the Chippewas. She added five assists, four rebounds and a block, and didn't miss a shot from the floor. Candace was four-of-four from the field and two-of-two at the stripe.
The only other Chippewa in double digits was junior center Chasidy Myers with 10.
CMU held a 47-32 edge in rebounding behind seven caroms from Sharonda Hurd and six from Lindsay Mecoli. the junior seeing her first extended action of the season. She had been slowed by a leg injury.
The Chippewas committed just 10 turnovers against 21 assists.
Next up for CMU is Wright State at home on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be followed by a men's contest with Rochester College.
