Chippewas Post 73-69 Men's Basketball Win

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Senior Tony Bowne meshed four straight free throws in the final 28 seconds to give Central Michigan University a 73-69 men's basketball win over Loyola of Chicago here Wednesday night.
The win upped CMU's home record to 5-0 for the season and improved its record to 5-4. The Ramblers drop to 2-9.
The Chippewas had a tough night at the foul stripe, hitting just 15-of-26 for 57.7 percent. However, Loyola picked the wrong man to foul as Bowne hit all eight foul shots during the game to raise his tally for the season to 29-of-33 (87.8 percent).
CMU trailed by as many as nine points in the first half at 31-22 and 33-24 but the Chippewas scored the final five points of the half to trail by 33-29 at the break. The final three points were by Bowne with one second to go.

CMU moved into a six-point lead on four occasions in the second half, and claimed the win thanks to Bowne's proficiency at the foul line.
Bowne, a 6-3, 220-pounder, came off the bench to lead CMU in scoring with 14 points followed by Kevin Nelson with 12 and Giordan Watson 11.
Redshirt freshman Justin Blevins had career highs for both points (10) and rebounds (eight). Seven of Blevins boards came on the offensive end.
Game-high honors went to Loyola sophomore Blake Schilb with 21 points while sophomore Majak Kou came off the bench to add 16 points.

CMU shot 27-of-61 from the field for 44.3 percent compared to 24-of-55 for the Ramblers (43.6). CMU also held a slight edge in rebounds, 40-36.
The Chippewas hurt themselves in the first half with 14 turnovers but came that down to five in the second 20 minutes.
CMU returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 2, with a Mid-American Conference road game at Marshall. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
