CMU Women Fall at Valparaiso, 81-60

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Valparaiso University poured in a school-record 17 three-pointers here Wednesday night in rolling to an 81-60 women's basketball win over Central Michigan University.
The Crusaders drilled 17-of-31 threes for a sizzling 57 percent in upping their record to 3-3. Valpo entered the game hitting just 14-of-59 from three-point land (23.7 percent) for the season.
The Chippewas fall to 4-3.
CMU jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 6-5 early in the game only to succumb to a pair of 11-0 runs by VU. The Crusaders led by as many as 35 points in the second half, 81-46 with 3:22 remaining.
Freshman Stacey Verhoff led the Chippewas with a career-high 16 points followed by Chasidy Myers with 13 points.
Game-high honors went to Valpo's Carrie Myers with 23, 21 coming on seven threes. Lauren Bechtold added 17.
The Chippewas hit 21-of-60 from the field for 35 percent, just 3-of-12 from behind the arc for 25 percent.
VU hit 28-of-60 from the floor for 46.7 percent.
CMU did hold a 42-33 edge in rebounds thanks to a game-high and career-high nine caroms by Myers.
The Chippewas look to get back on the winning track at home on Sunday when Illinois-Chicago comes to Rose Arena for a game at 2 p.m.
