Volleyball Lets Lead Slip in 3-2 Loss at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Central Michigan University volleyball team let a 2-0 lead slip away in a five-game loss at Oakland on Tuesday night.
The Golden Grizzlies' victory ended a string of 18-straight CMU triumphs in the series as OU improves to 1-5 this season while the Chippewas fall to 2-5.
The Maroon and Gold won the first two games, 31-29 and 30-18, before its hitting percentage dropped in the final three games as CMU fell 26-30, 26-30, 10-15 in the remaining frames.
Oakland put up 12.5 blocks and forced 30 CMU hitting errors to earn the victory.
Emily Lovejoy and Meghan Moore each tallied 15 kills in the loss but the normally efficient Lovejoy hit just .096 for the match. She did add 10 digs and a block assist while Moore had five digs and a pair of blocks for a team-high 16.0 points.
Sophomore Kristen Buter chipped in with career-high 12 kills and a pair of blocks and Jesse Miller added six kills on the right side.
The Grizzlies featured a balanced attack with four players in double figures in kill department. Chelsea Licavoli posted a match-high 18 and Sara Miller notched 14 kills and eight blocks.
Ali McCrite led the CMU defense with 14 digs and Courtney Kersten dished out 48 assists.
CMU travels to Purdue this weekend for the Mortar Board Premier on Friday and Saturday. The Chippewas will face Purdue, Kentucky and East Tennessee State before beginning Mid-American Conference play next week.
