MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University soccer team got back on track with a 1-0 shut out victory over Bowling Green at home on Friday.
The Chippewas improve to 4-4-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in the Mid-American Conference while Bowling Green falls to 1-7-1 and 0-2-1 in the conference. This was the first victory over Bowling Green at home for CMU and helps it avenge last seasons' shootout loss to the Falcons in the MAC tournament semifinals.
The lone goal of the match came in the 37th minute. Alison Heydorn stole the ball from a BGSU player and midfield and started the CMU rush up field. Heydorn made a couple moves to get past the Falcons defenders before finding Laura Roberts. Roberts made a crossing pass to Rosamaria Rago and Rago went top shelf for her first goal of the season.
CMU controlled the ball for most of the contest, out shooting Bowling Green, 16-7, and earning one more corner than the Falcons. Anne Decker earned her eighth career shutout, which ties her with Kari Alexander for the most in CMU history. Decker made three saves in the victory.
The Chippewas host Toledo in their second contest of this weekend. The match is Sunday at the CMU soccer complex starting at 1 p.m.
