MOUNT PLEASANT -- Career highs by Steve Harris and Eddie Spencer were not enough here Wednesday night as Central Michigan University lost a 77-73 Mid-American Conference men's basketball decision to Bowling Green State University.
The 6-8 senior Harris scored 16 points and 6-6 sophomore Eddie Spencer chipped in with 15 for the Chippewas.
However, four players in double digits and 27-of-32 accuracy from the free throw line paved the way for the Falcons.
BG is now 12-4 for the season and 6-2 in MAC play while the Chippewas fall to 7-10 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
CMU held a 30-25 halftime lead and still led, 70-69, with 2:26 to play. BG took the lead for good at 72-70 on a three-pointer by Steve Wright with 2:12 remaining.
The Falcons did get it up to six points at 77-71 with 20 seconds to go before CMU's Sefton Barrett closed the scoring with a layup with seven seconds to go.
Game-scoring honors went to John Reimold with 19 followed by Josh Almanson with 16, Wright 15 and John Floyd 12.
BG hit 47.8 percent of its shot from the field on 22-of-46 compared to CMU's 29-of-63 for 46 percent. The Falcons also held a 34-31 edge in rebounding behind Reimold's eight. Harris and Barrett led CMU with seven each.
Bowling Green had more turnovers, 16-12.
