Chippewa Women Lose at Marshall, 79-69

HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- Sophomore Sharonda Hurd registered her second straight double-double for the Central Michigan University women's basketball team but it wasn't enough to prevent Marshall University from rolling to a 79-69 win here Wednesday night.
Hurd scored 12 points and collected 11 rebounds, 10 points and seven caroms coming in the second half. She now has three double-doubles for the season.
MU claimed a 40-27 halftime lead and CMU could get not closer than nine in the final half.
The Thundering Herd are now 10-7 for the season and 4-2 in Mid-American Conference action. CMU drops to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in the MAC.
Junior Casey Manning led CMU with 16 points while redshirt freshman Dana Westover chipped in with 11 points.
Crystal Champion and Reshundra Smiley led Marshall with 16 each.
CMU shot 51.9 percent from the field on 28-54, including a sizzling 60.7 percent in the second half (17-28). Marshall was true on 51.6 percent of its shots (33-of-64).
The rebounding was even at 31-31.
Next up for the Chippewas is a home game on Saturday against Northern Illinois at 2 p.m.
