Saturday's game marked the sixth time in the last seven outings that the CMU defense has not allowed a touchdown after halftime. The Chippewas have allowed just 28 points (seven field goals, one touchdown) combined to their last seven opponents in the second half.
Ontario Sneed finished with 89 yards on 23 carries Saturday, putting him over the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season. He now has 1,004 yards on the ground. He is the 22nd different player, and second true freshman, to run for 1,000 yards in a season at CMU.
A number of CMU single-game records fell on Saturday. Among them: total plays (110), first downs (35), first downs passing (23), pass attempts (71), completions (46), and passing yards (460). For the second straight week, Kent Smith set new individual records for attempts (70) and completions (46) and also set new individual marks for passing yards (460) and total offense (480).
Smith is also now the CMU single-season record holder for completions (232) and attempts (378).
Justin Harper hauled in a school-record 14 passes for a career-high 136 yards.
Three players established new career highs in receptions on Saturday: Harper (14), Ontario Sneed (9) and Obed Cetoute (8). Damien Linson (9) and Jacob Brown (4) both equaled their career highs.
Ontario Sneed recorded his third multiple touchdown game of the season with two rushing scores. It is the first time this year, however, that he has rushed for more than one touchdown in a game.
CMU's 14 points in the first quarter were the most it has scored in the opening period this season. The Chippewa offense scored on its opening possession for the second time this year. On the flipside, Western Michigan's 21 second-quarter points are the most allowed by CMU in a single quarter in 2005.
CMU has dropped six straight in Kalamazoo. The Chippewas' last win at Western Michigan was a 23-18 victory in 1993.
