MOUNT PLEASANT -- Poor shooting once again plagued the Central Michigan University men's basketball team here Sunday afternoon in falling to the University of Toledo, 64-56.
The Chippewas meshed just 35.8 percent of their shots from the field on 19-of-53.
The loss was CMU's sixth in a row and dropped its record to 7-13 for the season and 2-10 in Mid-American Conference play. The Rockets are now 10-10 overall and 6-5 in the league.
For the second straight game, Chippewa freshman Giordan Watson scored 21 points to match his season high. He was supported by a career high from redshirt freshman Justin Blevins who bagged 14. They were the lone CMU players in twin figures.
Toledo, firing 44.7 percent from the field on 17-of-38, had four players in twin figures. Keith Triplett, nailing 9-of-10 free throws, was tops with 16 followed Justin Ingram with 14, Sammy Villegas 11 and Allen Pinson 10.
The Rockets had a big edge in free throw shooting, hitting 24-of-27 while CMU converted just 14-of-23.
Toledo also held a slight 33-30 edge in rebounding behind seven from Ingram. Robert Sevalia had six to lead CMU.
The Rockets won despite turning the ball over 23 times to 18 for the Chippewas.
CMU goes on the road for a pair of MAC games this week, playing at Northern Illinois on Wednesday and at Eastern michigan on Saturday.
