Softball Falls to UMass in Championship Bracket Opening Game

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan University softball team couldn't manage to hold a lead in a 5-4 loss to Massachusetts on Saturday in the championship bracket of the Speedline Tournament.
CMU led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third and 4-2 into the bottom of the fifth but the Minutewomen plated one run in the bottom of the fifth and another two in the sixth for the victory.
The Chippewas fall to 6-6 overall and will face Penn State again on Sunday at 9 a.m. CMU has faced the Nittany Lions twice on the Florida trip so far and the Chippewas dropped both games (3-0 and 9-1).
Jessica Garvin took the loss in the circle as she falls to 5-3 on the year.
Christan Dhondt tallied an RBI single in the first to put CMU on the board and Lindsey Calme notched an RBI single in the third.
CMU added two runs in the fifth when one run scored on an error by the left fielder and the second on a wild pitch.
