The Chippewas walk away as the #5 seed in the upcoming Mid-American Conference Tournament that will start on Wednesday. Central Michigan will face #4 Ohio at noon on May 6th. The tournament is being held at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
How the game happened
Angela Petrovitch started the game with her first hit of the afternoon, but the Chippewas were not able to capitalize in the first inning. Akron took a 2-0 lead after the completion of the first with a two-RBI double by its five-hole hitter.
The two runs that scored reach via walk.
Central Michigan then erupted for eight runs in the top of the second inning, taking a six-run lead.
Alexa Carter started the offensive mess with her ninth home run of the season, getting the Chippewas on the board as the leadoff batter in the inning. Grace Koenig and Emma Lotus then recorded back-to-back singles; Koenig via bunt, Lotus through the left side.
Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Rachel Cairo then drew a walk to load the bases.
Koenig and Lotus scored on a two-RBI single from Cierra Laska and the Chippewas then took a 3-2 lead.

The final run of the inning came via RBI single from Grace Koenig to score Kuzara from second.
Akron answered with one run in the bottom of the second via RBI triple.
Central Michigan did not plate another run until the fifth inning while Akron added five in that timeframe to tie the game at eight each.

Halfway through the fifth, 13-8, Chippewas. Cierra Laska, who entered in relief in the third inning, worked a scoreless bottom of the fifth – the lone scoreless frame for the Zips in the game.

Laska came up clutch for CMU and ripped a double to left center, that cleared the bases; 17-12 Chippewas heading to the bottom of the final inning.
Mackenzie Langan, who entered to pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning, closed the door for the Chippewas, collecting her eighth win of the season.
Akron threatened in the bottom of the seventh scoring two via home run after a leadoff walk, but Langan grabbed a strikeout swinging, a fly ball out, and ended the game with a strikeout looking.
