Softball Eliminates Miami (OH), Advances to Thursday's 5:30 Game in MAC Tournament

Chippewas defeat Miami (OH) 7-3 in the consolation game; drop game one, 9-3 to Ohio.
AKRON, Ohio — Central Michigan Softball lived to see another day in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament as it defeated No. 3 Miami (OH) 7-3 in Wednesday evening's consolation game at Firestone Stadium. In the tournament's first game, CMU fell 9-3 to No. 4 Ohio.
The Chippewas advance to Thursday's 5:30 p.m. consolation game.
In a 7-3 victory over Miami (OH), Central Michigan broke a 3-3 tie with a four runs in the seventh inning and took advantage of a complete game pitching performance from Brooklyn Comapau.
Cierra Laska contributed a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth inning that tied the game at 2-2 after Miami (OH) scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a home run. Laska plated Emma Lotus and London Williams. Williams led off the inning off with a walk and Emma Lotus reached via single up the middle.
Williams then gave the Chippewas a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a solo home run, her eighth of the season.
After the first inning, Compau and the defense held the Redhawks scoreless over four consecutive innings. Miami (OH) posted its final run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. The run came via sacrifice fly, as Tori Briggs made a sliding catch after entering the game as a defensive substitution.
The seventh inning is where the Chippewas locked in and gave Compau insurance runs – that she ended up not needing. Laska started the inning with a walk and was moved over by Briggs on a singled to the right side. Petrovitch laid down a sacrifice bunt that moved the runners into scoring position. Ashley Bila, who started the game in right field, re-entered for Briggs. Jenna Kuzara followed with another sacrifice bunt, but reached base on a throwing error that scored Laska and gave the Chippewas a 4-3 lead. CMU was not fisisheed yet. With runners on first and In a first and third, Kuzara stole second base, and baited a throw from the RedHawk catcher that allowed Bila to score and put CMU up 5-3.
Alexa Carter followed with a single that scored Kuzara and the Chippewas led by three. Another bunt attempt by Grace Koenig and another error by the RedHawk second baseman put runners on first and second with one out. Ella Luegge, who entered as a pinch runner for Carter, scored from second base on an RBI single by Williams and scored the fourth run of the inning for Central Michigan.
Compau went back to the circle with a four-run lead and retired the Redhawks in 1-2-3 fashion, getting a fly ball, a ground ball, the struck out the final batter to complete the game. The junior ended the game with four strikeouts and just one walk.
First Game: Akron 9, CMU 3
In the day's first game, the Central Michigan grabbed an early two-run lead in the game after Angela Petrovitch led the game off with a triple and a two-run home run by Alexa Carter. Both Carter and Petrovitch earned Second Team All-MAC honors on Wednesday morning.
CMU scored its final run of the game in the third inning on an RBI single from Grace Koenig.
Ohio scored their runs in the bottom of the third inning via RBI walk and a grand slam. The final run came in the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run.
Aubrey Strelow took the loss for CMU in the circle, moving to 4-4 on the season. Strelow was relieved by Langan in the in the bottom of the third. Strelow went 2.0 innings for CMU with two strikeouts and two walks, Langan threw the final 4.0 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Angela Petrovitch added two hits, while Carter, Koenig and Emma Lotus each added one.
