Team 48 Sets Offensive Records in 2026 Softball Season

CMU Softball ends its season at the MAC Tournament against #4 Ohio.
In the 2026 season, the Chippewas were under the offensive instruction of new assistant coach, Faith Hensley. Hensley led the offense to historical numbers in her inaugural season with the Maroon & Gold. CMU ended its season with 450 hits, the third most of any team in program history, 268 RBI and a team batting average of .325. Both the RBI and team average records are the highest in program history.
Cierra Laska also enters the record book, rewriting history with seven saves on the year. Her eight career saves rank second in a career for CMU Softball history.
Central Michigan started the game with two runs in the top of the first inning on an RBI double by Alexa Carter and an RBI single from Grace Koenig. Petrovitch started the game by reaching on an error.
Ohio answered in the bottom of that inning with six runs – a sacrifice fly, a two-RBI double and back-to-back solo home runs.
In the second inning, Tori Briggs plated two more runs for the Chippewas with a two-RBI double to right field that scored Rachel Cairo and Cierra Laska.
Ohio scored again in the fourth with a solo home run.
Central Michigan exploded for eight runs in the top of the fifth inning, taking a 13-8 lead. The scoring started with a home run by London Williams, her ninth of the season. Grace Koenig scored on the shot after drawing a leadoff walk. That home run triggered the second pitching change of the inning for the Bobcats, After that, Cierra Laska singled, Rachel Cairo singled, and Tori Briggs singled. Laska scored on the Briggs single and the Bobcats re-entered their starting pitcher. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Petrovitch advanced to second base on a wild pitch, then crossed the plate along with Ashley Bila, who pinch ran for Briggs. The two scored on a double from Jenna Kuzara. Alexa Carter then drew a walk and Kuzara scored on a double from Grace Koenig. London Williams came back to the plate, as the Chippewas batted around in the inning, and singled down the right field line to score Carter, and Koenig who was hot on her tail sprinting around third.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ohio added two more runs on a home run, and then five more in the bottom of the sixth with a bases clearing double and a two-RBI single. That gave the Bobcats a 15-13 lead.
The Chippewas ended their 2026 season with a 25-24 overall and 15-11 in the Mid-American Conference. Appearing in the 2026 MAC Tournament, the Chippewas reached the achievement for the 15th straight year.
Brooklyn Compau took the start in the circle for CMU and ended up with the decision. All Chippewas pitched appeared in the game. Compau threw 1.1 innings with five earned runs, issuing two walks and collecting a strikeout. Cierra Laska threw 0.2 innings with two earned runs and a strikeout. Mackenzie Langan threw the longest of the Chippewa staff, 3.1 innings, facing 18 batters. Langan gave up four runs and struck out three batters. Strelow threw 0.2 innings in relief with four earned runs and a strikeout.
