First Day in Akron Results in Two Losses for Softball

Central Michigan Softball drops two games at Akron on Saturday afternoon
AKRON, Ohio — The Central Michigan softball team dropped both ends of a dobuleheader Saturday, 5-4 and 9-5, at Akron. CMU moves to 23-22 on the season and 14-11 in conference play. The two teams will meet again for the regular season finale at 1 p.m.
Game 1
In her fourth start of her career, Aubrey Strelow threw a gem for the Chippewas as she pitched all 6.2 innings for the Chippewas. She struck out a career-high nine batters in the outing.
Akron got on the scoreboard first with home runs in the second and the third innings. CMU's Alexa Carter then evened the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning with a two RBI single that scored Grace Koenig and London Williams. Rachel Cairo then singled up the middle to score Ella Luegge who pinch ran for Carter.
CMU extended its lead to 4-2 in the sixth with another RBI single from Carter scoring Williams once again.
Akron scored in the top of the sixth on another solo home run to make it 4-3 CMU.
In the bottom of the seventh, with two outs, Akron registered a two-RBI double, giving the Zips a 5-4 victory.
Game 2
In game two, Grace Koenig opened the game with a three-run home run. Alexa Carter and Angela Petroitch scored on the round tripper after Carter reached via walk and Petrovitch started the game off with a single.
Akron answered in the bottom of the first inning with five runs. All five of its runs were scored with two outs. The first two came via RBI triple, another scored on an RBI single, and a two-run home run added the fifth run.
Brooklyn Compau, who started for the Chippewas, was responsible for all five runs in the first and was relieved by Mackenzie Langan, who issued a flyball out to end the inning.
Neither team scored in the second or third innings, and Akron added three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run, and a two-run home run.
Central Michigan scored in the fifth with an RBI single by Emma Lotus. Akron scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth on another solo home run, and in the bottom of the seventh, CMU added its fifth run of the game on an RBI single from Ashley Bila. Bila entered the game in right field in the top of the fourth, after entering as a pinch runner for Tori Briggs.
Petrovitch led CMU with three hits, Koenig had three RBI, and Carter drew three walks.
Brooklyn Compau took the loss for the Chippewas as she pitched 0.2 innings, allowed five runs and struck out two. Mackenzie Langan threw 3.0 innings for CMU with two strikeouts and three runs allowed. Cierra Laska ended the game in the circle for the Chippewas, as she faced the final 10 batters over 2.1 innings. Laska struck out five Zips.
