CMU Wins Second Game for MAC Sweep

DeKALB, Ill. -- The Central Michigan University baseball team capped a doubleheader baseball sweep of Northern Illinois University here Saturday by pounding out 19 hits and capturing a 12-6 victory.
The Mid-American Conference win upped CMU's loop mark to 5-6 and its overall slate to 23-14. NIU falls to 1-10 and 10-25.
The Chippewas won the first game, 14-6, and collected 34 hits in the twinbill.
CMU held a 11-2 through seven innings when the Huskies plate four in the eighth.
J.T. Jones was the hitting hero in this game for the Chippewas. The junior outfielder had a two-run double in the third and a three-run homer in sixth.
Sean Hoorelbeke and Brian Campbell had three hits each for CMU while Troy Moratti, Jim Geldhof, Ryan Peel and Eric Cannon had two hits each for the Chippewas. Peel, who homered in the ninth, and Cannon had two RBI each.
Josh Collmenter (4-1) was the starter and winner for CMU. He went seven innings and allowed four hits, two runs and one earned run. He walked two and struck out five.
Andy Wingert gave up four runs in two-thirds of an inning in the eighth before Jayson Ruhlman closed the door getting the final four outs.
The final game of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
