BUFFALO, N.Y -- Junior right-hander Ty Dunham is on a roll that the Central Michigan University baseball team hopes doesn't end for a long time.
The 6-4 product of Bay City Western tossed his second straight Mid-American Conference shutout here Friday afternoon in leading CMU to a 3-0 win over the University at Buffalo.
The win was the Chippewas' 10th straight in MAC play, raising their record to 33-15 overall and 13-6 in league play. The Bulls fall to 15-28-1 overall and 2-12-1 in the MAC.
Dunham has won four straight MAC games to raise his record to 7-3. Over those four games, he has pitched 34 innings and allowed just five earned runs to lower his ERA to 2.36.
Dunham scattered five hits against UB while walking one and striking out three. He won a pitcher's duel with Bull freshman right-hander Tony Kurtz who allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned. Kurtz fanned nine but also walked seven.
The game lasted only one hour and 52 minutes.
CMU scored solo runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings.
The first run came on double steal -- David Latour Jr. swiping second and Bryan Mitzel home. Mitzel reached base on a walk, went to second on a passed ball and took third on a wild pitch. Latour also walked.
In the fourth, Kurtis Wells singled and the Chippewas loaded the bases when Mitzel and Latour walked. Jeremy Crum then singled in Wells.
The final run came when Crum walked and scored on a double by Derek Schaller.
Crum was the lone Chippewa with multiple hits.
Game two of the three-game series is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
