CMU Bounces Back With 10-7 Victory

ROCHESTER -- Central Michigan University's baseball team pounded out 17 hits here Wednesday afternoon en route to a 10-7 win over Oakland University.
The win comes on the heels of an 11-0 home loss to Michigan State on Tuesday in a game the Chippewas had just seven hits.
Wednesday's win over the Grizzles improved CMU's record to 36-16 while OU falls to 12-36.
CMU scored two runs in the first and two more in the third but still trailed, 5-4, entering the fouth inning. However, the Chippewas plated five runs to take control of the game.
Troy Moratti had an RBI single to tie the game and Jim Geldhof knocked in the go-ahead run with a single. Kurtis Wells followed with a sacrifice fly and David Latour Jr. drove in the final two with a double.
Geldhof finished the game with three hits and two RBI while Latour knocked in three runs on two hits. Moratti, J.T. Jones, Latour and Ryan Peel each added two hits.
The win went to Josh Ruhlman (2-1) who was the second of four Chippewa hurlers. He tossed two and one-third innings without allowing a hit or a run. Josh walked four and fanned six.
Mark Lundquist went the next two and two-third innings for the Chippewas and gave up just one hit. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.
Nathan Pung went the final inning and was touched for two unearned runs.
CMU's starter Andy Wingert pitched three innings, allowing eight hits and five runs, four earned.
The starter and loser for Oakland was Paul Phillips (2-8). He hurled three and two-third innings and gave up 11 hits. CMU scored nine runs off him, six of them earned.
The Chippewas close the regular season at home this weekend with a three-game Mid-American Conference series against Eastern Michigan beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
