MOUNT PLEASANT -- J. T. Jones and Kurtis Wells drove in three runs each and Jason Cairns did the rest on the mound as Central Michigan University closed the 2005 regular season with a 9-3 baseball win over Eastern Michigan here Sunday afternoon.
The win was CMU's 15th in a row in Mid-American Conference play as the Chippewas finished league play at 18-6 -- the same record it had a year ago in winning the MAC.
CMU carries a 39-16 overall record into Wednesday's opening-round game in the MAC tourney against either Western Michigan or Bowling Green. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Eastern finished its season at 22-34 and 8-14 in the league.
Cairns raised his record to 7-5 with seven and two-third solid innings. He gave up six hits and two runs, both earned, while walking one and fanning three.

The starter and loser for the Eagles was Matt Onderlinde who went two and two-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned). He's now 2-4.
CMU broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third after two were out. Troy Moratti and Jones reached on walks and Sean Hoorelbeke followed with a single to load the bases. Bryan Mitzel singled in two runs and Wells singled in a third. The last came on an EMU error.
The Chippewas raised the lead to 7-0 in the fourth with three more runs after two were out. Moratti reached on an error, took second on the play, was balked to third and scored on a single by Jones. Hoorelebeke then singled and Wells knocked in two with a single.
Jones singled in runs in the fifth and seventh innings to close the scoring.
