OXFORD, Ohio -- Central Michigan University lost to host Miami University here Saturday, 5-2, to force a second Mid-American Conference tournament championship game.
The same two teams will meet at 3:45 p.m. The winner will get the automatic NCAA regional bid.
CMU scored two runs in the second off RedHawk freshman John Ely on a single by Bryan Mitzel, a walk to Crum, an RBI single by Derek Schaller and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Peel.
However, Miami came right back with two in the bottom of the inning when Brian Canada walked and John Frietch deposited a two-run homer to right.
MU added solo runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth for the win.
Ely went the entire game, allowing five hits. He walked two and fanned nine to raise his record to 10-1.
Jayson Ruhlman took the loss to fall to 5-4. He went six and two-third innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs.
Mitzel was the lone Chippewa with two hits.
