BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - It was a four-point game with 1:42 left before the half, but the Central Michigan University Chippewas went fifteen minutes without a field goal as Bowling Green built up a 23-point lead and cruised to a 66-44 victory in Anderson Arena on Wednesday night.
The Chippewas fall to 2-8, 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference, while BGSU improves to 5-6 overall, 1-0 in the MAC.
The Falcons led 22-18 with 1:42 left before the break after Sefton Barrett made a free throw to cut it to a four-point margin. However, CMU wouldn't hit a field goal until 8:05 remained and Jon Yeazel hit a runner to make it 50-27.
Barrett led CMU with a near double-double of 17 points and nine rebounds. He was the lone Chippewa in double figures.
The Falcons had two players hit twin figures with Martin Samarco tallying 12 and Mawel Soler 11. Three other BGSU players had nine each.
Turnovers and a poor field goal percentage were detrimental to CMU all night long. The Chippewas coughed it up 28 times for the second straight game and the Maroon and Gold hit a season-low .262 from the floor. CMU made just 1-of-11 three-point attempts for a .091 clip.
Giordan Watson had seven points and Justin Blevins five points and six rebounds. Drew Walker and Reynold Walters both made their first starts of the season and Walker had four points, seven rebounds and a block, all in the first half.
The Chippewas won the battle of the boards, 42-31, with 18 of the caroms coming on the offensive glass.
CMU returns home on Saturday, Jan. 7, to host Kent State. Tipoff in Rose Arena is set for 2 p.m.
