Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to Bowling Green

MOUNT PLEASANT – Bowling Green showed why it is one of the most accurate volleyball teams in the Mid-American Conference in its 3-0 (31-29, 30-19, 30-23) victory over Central Michigan University in Rose Arena on Friday night.
The Chippewas drop to 12-6, 3-4 in the MAC while BGSU goes to 17-2, 7-0 in the conference. The Falcons have won 13 straight matches.
Bowling Green hit .286 in the match, bettering CMU’s mark of .130. The Falcons were also consistent in their attack as they hit .295 in game one, .306 in game two and .256 in game three. The Chippewas struggled with their consistency, hitting .286 in the first game but .000 and .078 in games two and three. BGSU leads the MAC in hitting percentage with a mark of .296.
The key momentum swing in the match came at the end of game one as BGSU rallied from behind to capture the frame. CMU bolted out to a 19-11 lead in the game before the Falcons began they rally. The Chippewas still had a chance to clinch the game with a 29-27 lead but Bowling Green would score the last four points to take the game.
Kristen Wiloch led CMU in kills for the third straight match as she tallied 15 on the night. Wiloch also hit a team-high .300. Mary Ochmanek was the only other Chippewa in double-figures with 11 kills. Courtney Kersten tallied 40 assists while Alexis Lonneman recorded a team-high 12 digs and Alison Baker had a team-high four blocks.
Madeline Means tallied a team-high 13 kills to lead Bowling Green while Corey Domek had 10 kills. Chelsey Meek record a match-high 16 digs, Stephanie Swiger had a team-high four blocks and Chrissy Gothke dished out 40 assists.
The Falcons would finish with more kills (53-45), digs (49-43) and service aces (3-2) while CMU had more blocks (7.0-6.0).
The Maroon and Gold return to action tomorrow night when they host Miami in Rose Arena at 7 p.m. Fans can get in free with a ticket from Saturday’s football game with Ball State.
