Central Michigan University women’s basketball head coach Eileen Kleinfelter announced today the hiring of Barry Schrock as an assistant coach.
Schrock was an assistant coach under Kleinfelter at the University of Findlay for four seasons (1994-1998). During that time, he assisted in leading Findlay to three NAIA National Tournament appearances while reaching the Final Four in 1998. He helped develop two NAIA All-Americans and two Kodak All-Americans in addition to six NAIA All-Scholar All-Americans while amassing a record of 105-24.
After he left Findlay, Schrock was the head girl’s basketball coach at Houston High School in Houston, Ohio. A year later, he moved on to New Haven High School in New Haven, Indiana, where he guided the girl’s basketball program from 1999-2001.
“I am pleased to have Barry on staff with me again,” Kleinfelter said. “We have kept in touch over the years and he has worked several CMU basketball camps for us. He is an excellent teacher of the game and will enhance our player development. I particularly like the energy he brings to the table along with an incredible passion for the game. Barry is a ‘go-getter’ and an effective recruiter as well. He has a solid understanding of the game and will contribute to our practice and game coaching.”
Before joining Kleinfelter at Findlay, Schrock was the head women’s basketball coach at Ohio State University/Lima Technical College during the 1993-94 season. He led the squad to a conference championship and state tournament runner-up finish while coaching the conference player of the year. Prior to being the head coach he served as an assistant for both the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
Schrock began his coaching career as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Ohio Northern University, during the 1989-90 season. He graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Health and Physical Education.
“My wife, Heather, and I, are very excited about our move to Mount Pleasant and being a part of the Chippewa family,” Schrock said. “It is a great feeling to return to the college ranks.”
