MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University students were treated to lunch Wednesday, courtesy of the Central Michigan University men’s and women’s basketball teams. The Chippewas handed out hot dogs outside the Bovee University Center as a thank you for past support and to create awareness for the upcoming 2007-08 season.
Men’s head coach Ernie Zeigler and women’s head coach Sue Guevara, along with the coaching staffs and players, greeted passers-by and informed fans of the upcoming Chippewa basketball “Fright Night” scheduled for Halloween, Oct. 31.
“Our programs are in this together as we try to promote basketball here at CMU,” Guevara said. “We want to get the students involved and get the campus excited about coming out to watch us play. We want the students to help make Rose Arena a thorny place to play for our opponents.”
Men’s coach Ernie Zeigler agreed.
“Today was a great event for us,” he said. “We were able to get out and show the students that we appreciate their support and want them to continue to make this a difficult place to play. Our students are an integral part of our program and their involvement at games will play a major role this winter.”
The men’s team opens with an exhibition game on Nov. 4 against Hillsdale at Rose Arena, while the women’s season kicks off at home with a Nov. 1 exhibition tilt against Ferris State.
Season tickets are now available for both squads and can be purchased by calling 1-888-FIRE-UP2.
