Volleyball Ends Season With Loss to Miami, 3-0

TOLEDO, Ohio The Central Michigan University volleyball team saw its season come to a close with a 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 31-29) loss to Miami in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon in Toledo, Ohio.
The Chippewas wrap up the season at 22-10 on the year. This was CMU’s first 20-win season since 1985. The match was also the final contest for senior setter Courtney Kersten. Kersten finished her career second all-time in assists with 4,222.
CMU finished the match with more kills, 47-40, but a poor hitting percentage (.108) and 32 attacking errors led to the defeat. The RedHawks finished with a .137 hitting mark and also tallied 10.0 blocks in the three games.
Kate Fissel finished with a team-high 14 kills while Whitney Evers tallied nine. Fissel, who tallied double figure kills in every match this year, finished the season just five kills away from the CMU single season record. She had 507 kills this year, which is second all-time. Kersten wrapped up her career with 25 assists while Stephanie Budde notched 14 assists.
On defense. Alexis Lonneman had a team-high 14 digs with Fissel tallying a double-double with 10 digs. Lonneman finished the season with 552 digs, the third-best total in CMU single season history. Finished was just 12 digs from the top mark. Evers tallied a team-best three blocks while Sam Otte had two.
The Maroon and Gold finished with more digs (57-49) and assists (42-35) while the RedHawks had more service aces (6-5) and blocks (10.0-5.0).
