Volleyball Adds Two For 2008

Central Michigan University volleyball coach Erik Olson announced today the addition of a pair of student-athletes for the 2008 season.
Joining the Chippewas next season are 6-4 middle blocker Kaitlyn Schultz and 5-11 setter Catherine Ludwig. Schultz is from Highland, Mich., attending Milford High School and also playing for the M-Juniors Club team. Ludwig is from Downs, Ill., and played at Tri-Valley High School and for the Illini Elite Club team.
“This 2008 class is fantastic addition to our volleyball program,” Olson said. “The current and past teams have worked so hard to bring our program to a championship contender level. Kaitlyn and Catherine have every intention of helping this program continue to improve and reach our program goals.”
Schultz was a Michigan Miss Volleyball finalist this season and earned second team all-state honors from the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Association. She also led her squad to the regional finals, its best finish ever, and was named an AAU All-American in the summer of 2007.
Kaitlyn is our first PrepVolleyball.com Senior Ace Top 150 recruit in my time here and I would presume in Central Michigan volleyball’s history,” Olson said. “Her size and physicality at the net will be an addition to the program that will be eye opening. She will have great mentors in the other middle blockers/rightsides on our roster, which will aid in her transition to the Division I game.”
Ludwig was chosen the tournament MVP at the AAU National Tournament last season while leading her team to a national title. She also earned All-American honors at the club level. This season, she received all-state special mention honors and was also named first team all-area.
“Catherine is a very intelligent setter with very good hands,” Olson said. “She has great location, and really understands how to run an offense. She is a proven winner, with very high goals for herself. She is a perfect fit for Central Michigan and where we plan to take this program.”
