CMU Falls to Florida Atlantic in Five Games

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Central Michigan University volleyball team fell to Florida Atlantic, 3-2 (30-27, 30-27, 23-30, 27-30, 14-16), in its final match at the UCF Invitational this afternoon. CMU had a 2-0 lead in the match before FAU rallied to win the final three games and hand CMU its second straight loss after a 7-0 start to the season.
CMU (8-2) took both of the first two games by identical 30-27 scores, and appeared poised to make quick work of FAU (3-6) and run its record at the UCF Invitational to 3-1. However, FAU rallied to take game three, 30-23, then won game four, 30-27, to send the match to a decisive game five. The fifth game went extra points before FAU prevailed, 16-14, to claim the match.
Whitney Evers led the CMU offense with a season-high 25 kills, and two other Chippewas, Lauren Krupsky (14) and Sarah Warner (11) reached double figures in kills. Both Evers and Warner recorded double-doubles, notching 18 and 16 digs, respectively, to go along with their twin figure kill totals. Mallorie Ciesel had 48 assists for the Chippewas.
CMU hit just .154 for the match, and didn't top .100 in hitting percentage in any of the final three games of the match. FAU had a hitting percentage of .197 for the match, and produced 65 kills to 59 for CMU. Both teams had 11 total blocks in the match.
The Chippewas return home for their next match, against Chicago State, at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, in Rose Arena.
