Watson Named MAC West Division Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT Senior guard Giordan Watson (Southfield, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS/Bridgton Academy (Maine)) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week by the league office on Monday. It marks the third time this season he has received the award.
Watson averaged 26.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in CMU’s two games. He scored a season-high 29 points in a win over Northern Illinois and 23 at Toledo. Watson also drained eight three-pointers on the week, including five against NIU.
During the week he also reached a MAC first, becoming the only player in league history with 1,500 career points, 400 assists and 175 steals. Watson ranks fifth in CMU history in points (1,529), fifth in assists (421), second in steals (175) and fifth in three-pointers made (167).
The Chippewas (7-9, 2-2 Mid-American) are at rival Western Michigan on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Tipoff in University Arena is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised to a national audience on ESPNU.
