MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University men’s basketball coach Ernie Zeigler announced today that senior forward Marcus Van has been reinstated.
“The opportunity to be a student-athlete at Central Michigan University is a privilege,” Zeigler said. “In the last week, Marcus has demonstrated a better understanding of what is expected from members of our program.”
Van played in 30 games last season for the Maroon and Gold, his first with the squad. The 6-7 center averaged 5.8 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds per game. He started 12 games and ranked sixth in the Mid-American Conference in blocked shots (1.10 per game) and 18th in rebounding (5.3).
“We feel this opportunity is warranted after an extended evaluation of this situation and a demonstration by Marcus that he understands his responsibilities,” Athletics Director Dave Heeke said. “His reinstatement is contingent on him meeting a number of conditions set for him which includes serving a six-game suspension to start the season.”
