MOUNT PLEASANT Chris Kellermann’s double-double led the Central Michigan University men’s basketball team to a 75-55 exhibition victory over Marygrove on Saturday in Rose Arena.
Kellermann scored 12 of his 17 points in the first half, including a pair of three-pointers to get CMU off to a good start. The senior also grabbed 10 rebounds. Jeremy Allen and Antonio Weary also scored in double figures, scoring 12 points apiece.
A main storyline was the Chippewas’ defense, which forced 21 turnovers and held the Mustangs to 35.1% shooting.
“It is always encouraging to see the things you work on in practice be paramount in games,” head coach Ernie Zeigler said. “I was pleased with our defensive effort today.”
Marygrove kept the game close in the early going, but CMU closed the first half on a 23-11 run to take a 39-24 lead into the break.
The Chippewas took control of the game early in the second half, extending the lead to 30 (63-33) with 9:41 remaining in the tilt.
The Chippewas open up their season Friday, Nov. 15 when they take on Princeton.
