12/24/2008 12:00:00 AM | Football
DETROIT – Central Michigan completed its second full day of Motor City Bowl activities in Detroit on Wednesday.
The Chippewas began the day with a series of team and positional meetings in the morning. At noon, CMU and Florida Atlantic arrived at the Atheneum Hotel in Detroit for the annual Motor City Bowl Kickoff Luncheon. Michigan State football and Detroit Pistons play-by-play announcer George Blaha emceed the event, which featured both head coaches and Motor City Bowl officials.
As part of the luncheon, Two Men and a Truck moving company presented an “On the Move” citizenship award to one student-athlete on each team. A pair of quarterbacks took home the honor, with CMU’s Brian Brunner and FAU’s Rusty Smith earning recognition. Two Men and a Truck also made a donation to the scholarship fund of each school.
Following lunch, CMU practiced for 90 minutes inside Ford Field. CMU’s traveling party then embarked for Novi and the Andiamo Italia restaurant and Second City comedy club. Following the dinner the party enjoyed a special improv comedy show at the comedy club.
Both CMU and FAU will help the Salvation Army serve breakfast Christmas morning at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. The Chippewas will hold a brief practice at Ford Field mid-morning before taking most of the rest of Christmas Day off. The team will conduct its weekly pregame meetings beginning Thursday night.
