Chippewas Head to Chattanooga

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Whitney Evers leads the Central Michigan volleyball team down to Chattanooga, Tenn. to participate in the UT-Chattanooga Invitational.
Evers earned MAC West Division Player of the Week honors during the opening week, hitting a MAC-best .500 while registering 41 kills in the season's first three matches.
The Chippewas will face South Alabama on Friday at 5 p.m., before facing Alabama A&M (10 a.m.) and UT-Chattanooga (4 p.m.) on Saturday.
Senior Kate Fissel leads the team with 44 kills, while Alexis Lonneman has registered 52 of the team's 157 digs this season. The senior libero is averaging 4.73 digs/set through 11 sets.
The biggest strength for Central through three sets, however, is the fact that opponents are hitting just .154 this season and are averaging just 10.27 kills/set.
CMU (2-1) will see many new faces this weekend, combining for just one previous meeting between all three opponents this weekend (a 3-0 sweep over South Alabama in 2006).
This is the second of three straight tournaments scheduled to open the season for CMU. Central will play 10 straight on the road to open 2008.
