MOUNT PLEASANT -- As the No. 5 seed in this week's Mid-American Conference Tournament the Central Michigan volleyball team will host No. 12 Eastern Michigan in a first round match at Rose Center on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The last time CMU hosted a first round MAC Tournament game came back in 2007 as the No. 6 seed, when the Chippewas hosted the No. 11 seed Toledo Rockets. Central claimed a 3-2 victory over UT. The Chippewas earned a bye through to the quarterfinals in 2008.
"It can be such an advantage to host a first round match, but the tough thing is getting the word out to the fans so quickly," head coach Erik Olson said. "Rose Center is one of the toughest venues to play in the MAC when we have our big crowds. We need everybody to come out Tuesday and have a great time cheering our team on to the Seagate Center for the quarterfinals."
It will be the third meeting this season between EMU and CMU. The two teams split the season series, with each team claiming victory on the road.
"Eastern is good enough to beat anybody in the MAC, as they showed in a hard-fought five set loss on Saturday night to the West Division Champions," Olson said. "Eastern is a feisty defensive team, so we will need to be more patient this time around, yet consistently aggressive all night long. It will be a great match to watch."
There will be live stats available for the match, as well as live video for CMU Sports Zone subscribers. Tickets for the contest are available at the CMU ticket office. General admission tickets are $5, youth/senior tickets are $4 and students from MAC institutions are $2.
