Chippewas Wrap Up Regular Season

MOUNT PLEASANT – Central Michigan (4-12, 2-6 Mid-American Conference) will play its last two regular season games on the road this weekend. The Chippewas play the Miami RedHawks (11-6, 6-2 MAC) on Saturday in Oxford, Ohio at 1 p.m. and then take on the Ball State Cardinals (6-11, 2-6 MAC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
“We played two close games with them earlier this season, so we know they are both tough teams,” said CMU head coach Cristy Freese. “All three teams have a lot to play for this weekend, so that certainly adds to the intensity of the games.”
Miami is receiving votes this week in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I poll and is a half-game back in the MAC standings. The Cardinals are tied with CMU and Missouri State for fourth place in the conference.
“You really do not have to discuss the seeding,” said Freese. “Our kids are aware of it. They know where it stands and what we have to do. We are more focused on what we have to do on the field.”
Miami and Ball State will play each other on Friday before hosting CMU. It will be Senior Day for both MU and BSU.
Miami is averaging 2.70 goals per game in MAC play, which ranks second in the conference. MU has a goals against average of 1.47, which is also second in the MAC.
The RedHawks enter their game against Ball State on a two game winning streak, with a 4-0 win over Ohio and a 3-2 overtime win at Missouri State.
Senior forward Mary Hull, senior midfielder Christine Brightwell and freshman midfielder Emily Gruesser are tied for the team lead in goals with five. All three players are tied for seventh in the MAC.
Brightwell leads the RedHawks in shots with 25, which ranks seventh in the MAC. Hull leads MU in assists with four and points with 14. Hull is fifth in the conference in assists and sixth in points.
Freshman Sarah Mueller has played every minute at goalkeeper for MU this season. Mueller has a 1.79 GAA and a save percentage of .714 for the MAC season. Her GAA ranks second in the conference.
Ball State is averaging 1.60 goals scored per game and has a GAA of 4.18.
The Cardinals come into the match against Miami on Friday having lost five of their last six games. Their lone win came against the Indiana Hoosiers on Oct. 24.
Junior midfielder Devanny Kuhn leads BSU in goals (seven), points (15) and shots (37). Kuhn is tied for third in goals in the MAC and ranks fourth in the conference in points and shots.
Junior midfielder Gretchen Lulow leads the Cardinals in assists with four. Lulow is tied for fifth in the MAC in assists.
Junior Chelsea Mitchell and sophomore Morgan Hammer have each started four games in goal in MAC play. Mitchell has a GAA of 3.78 and a save percentage of .714. Hammer has a 4.61 GAA and a save percentage of .591.
CMU is 27-32 all-time against Miami and 23-39 all-time against Ball State.
The Chippewas lost to the Cardinals by a score of 3-2 in overtime on Oct. 9 and they lost to Miami, 3-2, on Oct. 10. 

CMU is coming off a weekend where it dropped a pair of road matches at Ohio and Kent State.
Sophomore midfielder Erin Dye leads CMU in goals (three), points (six) and shots (22). Dye is eighth in the MAC in shots. Juniors Brooke Sihota and Paulina Lee, along with freshman Juliana Makrinos and senior Amanda von Leer are tied for the team lead in assists with two.

 CMU's starting goalkeeper, junior Anastasia Netto, has a GAA of 2.74 and a save percentage of .672.Game Notes

-In the previous CMU-MU matchup, the CMU goals were scored by senior back Kim Sihota and Makrinos. Hull and senior forward Kate Snyder scored the goals for MU. Hull scored two goals in the game. Snyder scored the game-winning goal with 6:17 left in the game.
- Lee had one assist for the Chippewas in the loss to the RedHawks. Miami junior forward Jackie Nguyen and Gruesser each had one assist in the match.

- In the 3-2 overtime loss to Ball State, the CMU goals were scored by Dye and sophomore back Brittany Burga. Kuhn and junior forward Kristen Falk scored the BSU goals. Kuhn scored two goals.
- Burga’s goal came with 1:47 left in regulation to give CMU a 2-1 lead. Kuhn scored for BSU with 15 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, 2-2. Kuhn scored 1:03 into the overtime period to win the game for the Cardinals.
- Lulow had two assists for BSU in the earlier match against CMU.
