Three Chippewas find the back of the cage in Terwilliger’s second home game

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Field Hockey earned its second win of the season with a 3-2 showing over Saint Louis in the first game of a home-and-home series between the programs.

The Chippewas took the first lead of the game early in the second quarter, when Carolena Ryon squeezed one past the Billikens' keeper unassisted. The Chippewas took the 1-0 lead into the half.

Central Michigan's leading scorer, sophomore Mora Rulli, found her fifth goal of the weekend to lead the Chippewas to a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the second half. Two minutes later, defender AJ Walker sent a long pass down low to Teah Savignano for her first career goal.

"I felt that they played connected." Head Coach Kelly Terwilliger said, "To be able to hold the lead with a very passionate Saint Louis team is key for us. To keep the emotions in check, keep the play in our hands, and keep the possession."

The Chippewas allowed just two shots on goal, each resulting in a Billikens goal. The first came midway through the third quarter; the second found the back of the cage with just under two minutes remaining in the game off a corner attempt.

As a team, the Chippewas outshot the Billikens 7-2, while falling behind in corner attempts 2-5.

Central Michigan Field Hockey will kick off Mid-American Conference play Friday, Sept. 18, as they travel to Kent State ahead of hosting Michigan Sunday, Sept. 20, for Little Sisters Day.
