Chippewas Fall to RedHawks, 3-0

OXFORD, Ohio – The Central Michigan Chippewas (4-13, 2-7 Mid-American Conference) lost to the Miami RedHawks (13-6, 8-2 MAC) on Saturday by a score of 3-0.
CMU held Miami scoreless through the first half. Junior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto led the defense with eight saves in the first half.
“I thought Ana played really well in the first half,” said CMU head coach Cristy Freese. “Our penalty corner defense was also really good today.”
The RedHawks opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half when senior forward Mary Hull scored, on an assist from Kate Snyder.
Miami scored again one minute and 31 seconds later when Snyder found the back of the cage, with an assist from Hull.
Snyder scored the last MU goal with 11 minutes left in the match. Freshman midfielder Jordan Long had an assist on the play.
Sophomore midfielder Erin Dye, freshman forward Bailey McKeon and freshman midfielder Juliana Makrinos each had two shots to lead the Chippewa attack.
MU held an edge in shots, 20-7, and in penalty corners, 10-4.
CMU is back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when it travels to Ball State (6-12, 2-7 MAC).
“Ball State will be a tough team to play,” said Coach Freese. “We need to execute offensively and try to contain their offense.”
The Chippewas lost to Ball State in overtime, 3-2, on October 9 in Mount Pleasant.
