His Ears are Bigger Than That!: The Chippewas had some entertainment during their breakfast at IHOP. An artist offered free caricatures and many of the Chippewas took advantage. The players had a good time making sure that the artist knew which facial features should be emphasized on their fellow teammates’ drawings.
Hitting the Beach: CMU had a little bit of free time in the middle of the afternoon and most of the players explored the Waikiki Beach area. The team hotel is just three blocks from the beach. A couple of Chippewas took a quick test of the water’s temperature.
Thank You Veterans: Honolulu is populated by a lot of military personnel. Many military members were shown appreciation when they were seen around town throughout the day.
Ernie and “The Animals”: Head coach Ernie Zeigler was a guest on ESPN 1420 sports radio on Thursday afternoon. He chatted with The Sports Animals, Chris and Gary, about the weekend’s tournament. Coach Zeigler also taped a segment for the Huge Show in Michigan.
Back to Business: The Chippewas had a full practice during the evening in an auxiliary gym on Hawaii’s campus. Coach Zeigler emphasized the importance of starting the season strong. Following practice, the team had a scout and video session previewing Cal State Fullerton.
Weather Report: The Chippewas enjoyed sunny skies on Thursday with an 85 degree temperature and a smooth Pacific breeze.
Listen In: A free audio broadcast of all three of CMU’s games will be available on cmuchippewas.com. The pregame show starts 10 minutes before tipoff.
