Rainbow Classic Notebook: Saturday

Film Breakdown: The coaching staff usually breaks down the film of a game immediately following the contest. However, with CMU playing on back-to-back nights, the Chippewa staff turned its focus to the Montana State scout right after Friday night’s win over Cal State Fullerton. Coach Zeigler and staff did review the final two minutes of the Fullerton game before looking ahead to the matchup with the Bobcats. Both teams made big plays down the stretch and Zeigler wanted to learn from that experience.
Brazilian Idol: On the bus ride back to the hotel following the Fullerton game the Chippewas were treated to a rap performance from teammate Andre Coimbra. The newcomer spit rhymes in his native Portuguese to the delight of the team, many of which were recording it on cell phone and flip cameras.
Thanks Zippy: In tournaments, the crowds can be small when the host team isn’t playing. That was the case on Saturday night as roughly 200 fans were in attendance for the late game between CMU and Montana State. One fan did stick out as pulling for the Chippewas. He was wearing a MAC basketball tournament t-shirt with logos of all the teams and also sported an Akron Zips baseball cap.
Pleasure for Some: While the trip is a business trip for the coaches and players, the coaching staff's families have had a lot of time to enjoy the beauty of the island of Oahu. Making the trip were the coaches' spouses and children, along with Coach Zeigler's mother and mother-in-law. The auxiliary party's sightseeing adventures have included snorkeling, parasailing and a trip to the zoo.
Thomas A Hero: Jalin Thomas hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the Chippewa victory over Fullerton. It wasn’t the first buzzer beater of his career. He had one at Pensacola Junior College.
Weather Report: Once again the Chippewas enjoyed sunny skies with an 83-degree temperature and a soothing pacific breeze.
Hickam Visit: The Chippewas have an off day on Sunday. CMU’s travel party will tour Hickam Air Force Base and have lunch with military members from the state of Michigan, along with CMU students who are taking classes at CMU’s Off Campus Center there.
Fire Up Chips!: There were a few chants of Fire Up Chips today as team members were spotted around town in their Chippewa gear.
