Jalin Thomas led the Chippewas in scoring for the fourth consecutive game. Most of his game-high 17 points came during a 4:18 stretch in the second half when he scored 14 consecutive CMU points. The run turned a 12-point deficit into a tie game at the 7:27 mark. Thomas has averaged 20.8 points over his last four outings.
William McClure grabbed 10 rebounds to record his third double-digit rebounding game of the season. He tallied a career-high 15 versus Cal State Fullerton at the Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic in the season opener. He also matched his career best of four blocks tonight.
Amir Rashid recorded a personal-best of five steals tonight and equaled his season-high mark of six assists. Rashid has totaled 12 steals in the last three games.
The Chippewas matched a season-low 10 turnovers. Two of their three 10-turnover games have come in the two home games. The other came in the season opener.
Central's bench outscored Wright State's, 22-11, due largely in part to Derek Jackson's 12 points in 17 minutes.
Trey Zeigler's jumper at the 5:59 mark was the last field goal by either team and brought the Chippewas within one, 49-48. The two teams combined to shoot 0-for-11 from the field and 4-for-10 from the line in the final 5:59.
Tonight's loss marks the fifth of the season suffered by fewer than seven points. Seven of the Chippewas' nine games have been decided by single digits this year but CMU is just 1-6 in those games.
Wright State shot 57.9 percent (11-19) from the field in the second half, becoming the Chippewas' fourth consecutive opponent to shoot better than 50 percent after halftime.
The Chippewas held their second straight opponent, and their third of the season, under 60 points. They defeated UIC, 62-52, and lost to LSU in their last outing, 59-55.
