MOUNT PLEASANT -- For the fourth-consecutive season the Central Michigan volleyball team has demonstrated outstanding ability in the classroom, earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.
The Chippewas are one of a record 94 Division I schools and one of 450 institutions across all divisions to earn the prestigious award, which was initiated in 1992. It recognizes all programs that maintain a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average.
"We have established a culture of excellence in our program, and it is a balance of both volleyball and academics," head coach Erik Olson said. "We continue to reinforce the importance of being our own best in each area, on and off the court and in the community. This is what a championship culture is all about."
Of the 16 players on last year’s roster, 12 had at least a 3.0 GPA and seven boasted better than a 3.5.
