Head Coach Ernie Zeigler
On the disappointment of the loss...
"That's exactly what I told our guys there. When I look at the stat sheet, it was the best defensive performance of the year. We did two of three of the things that you need to do to win in a hostile environment on the road in MAC play. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take advantage of our defensive performance due to our inefficiencies on offense."
On the defensive play of Jalin Thomas on Flenard Whitfield...
"Jalin took that challenge to fruition. He came out with a sense of purpose and I thought we played good team defense as well. Coach Hawkins and his staff did a good job of being able to maneuver and finding offense in different areas for them."
On the play of his team's defense...
"The big thing for us was getting stops and getting grimy. We've gotten away from that, especially in the last few weeks. We have an opportunity to put ourselves to compete at the top of our division. Hopefully the effort defensively will give us something to build on moving forward."
Freshman guard Trey Zeigler
On falling behind early and battling back...
"We never lost belief that we were going to be in the game. We've started off slow in a few games this year and we always come back. We knew we were going to come back when we were down 16-6. We just had to keep pushing and try to cut the lead by halftime."
On the team's mental toughness...
"It is getting better. We still have a long ways to go. We've had so many close games this year and we haven't been able to close them out."
Senior forward Jalin Thomas
On struggling from the field…
"This was one of my worst performances by far I believe, so it was a tough one to swallow. I'm still going to have confidence, but it wasn't a good shooting night, which means I just need to get in the gym and put up more shots."
On team's ability to attack the offensive glass...
"Coach Z continued to stress we needed to hit the offensive glass more and more. I went to a couple guys and said if we go hard enough we can get them. We knew we could get to the offensive glass a lot more than we had lately."
On moving forward after the loss…
"We need to bounce back. We are always going to have ups and downs, whether it be the non-conference or the conference season. We just got to keep battling and take it as one of 16 conference games. We have to learn from it and build on it."
