Chippewas Help Celebrate MLK Week

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The men's basketball team helped usher in CMU's Martin Luther King Jr. Week by joining campus and community members for a peace vigil downtown after Monday's practice.
CMU President Dr. George E. Ross and Michigan Governer Rick Snyder both spoke at the event following the 19th annual unity march that stretched from campus to downtown Mount Pleasant.
"We used this as a very important teaching moment with our players," said head coach Ernie Zeigler, "helping them understand the contributions of Martin Luther King Jr. that effect our everyday lives around the country."
Other events on campus throughout the week included a presentation by a nationally renowned author and lecturer on diversity issues and a number of other activities to honor the civil rights leader.
