Olson, Chippewas Get First Taste of Events Center

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Individual workouts began this week for the Central Michigan volleyball team, but this round of drills is unlike any other, because it is the first activity for the Chippewas in McGuirk Arena.
CMU played their entire home schedule of the 2010 campaign at Finch Fieldhouse, displaced by the construction of the CMU Events Center, and while head coach Erik Olson enjoyed the unique opportunity to return to a site where the program enjoyed great success, it has been uplifting to get their first taste of their new home.
"From the first day, we feel like this place exudes energy," Olson said. "Even without a crowd in here, there's just something special about it."
The new surroundings may also have given a boost to the focus level of the Chippewas, now that they are in their new facility.
"There is a tremendous level of focus," Olson said. "We've shown a lot of maturity since the end of our season and it's showed before we even made our first contact with a ball. There's a lot of buying in going on in this team right now."
CMU continues individual workouts throughout January and February.
