GAME PREVIEW
All-Time Series
The Chippewas are just 18-45 versus Miami in program history, but won their last contest versus the RedHawks in Mount Pleasant, 57-55, on Feb. 10, 2009.
The Coaches
Head Coach Ernie Zeigler is in his fifth season at the helm of the Central Michigan men’s basketball program, sporting a record of 59-82 overall and 33-36 in Mid-American Conference play. Zeigler has led the Chippewas to back-to-back MAC West Division titles. Charlie Coles is in his 15th season as the head coach of the RedHawks and his 21st season overall. Coles coaches six seasons at Central Michigan, compiling a record of 95-81, the fifth most wins in CMU program history.
Climbing The Charts
Freshman guard Trey Zeigler moved into sixth place on CMU’s freshman single season scoring list on Sunday with his 13 points versus Eastern Michigan. Zeigler currently has 312 points on the season, just 14 points behind Vince Edwards (1994-95), 23 behind Ryan Jansen (1994-95) and 25 behind Sander Scott (1989-90). If Zeigler scores his average of 17.3 points per game over the team’s last 13 games of the season, he will finish just eight points shy of tying Northern Illinois’ Kenny Battle’s MAC freshman scoring record of 544.
Its Good To Be Home
The Chippewas are riding a four-game home win streak versus Mid-American Conference opponents and have won eight of 10 over the last two seasons. CMU is 2-0 on the season at home versus the MAC.
Scouting the Opponents
The RedHawks are led by a balanced scoring attack that features three players that score better than 12 points per contest. Julian Mavunga leads the team with 13.9 per night, while Antonio Ballard and Nick Winbush each score 12.2 points per game. Each of the three players also averages better than six rebounds a night. Winbush has knocked down a team-high 41 three-point field goals for the RedHawks, good for fifth in the Mid-American Conference.
