Appalachian State, No. 5 Duke on Tap for Chippewas

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan hits the road for a pair of non-conference contests this weekend, taking on Appalachian State and No. 5 Duke in Durham, N.C.
The Chippewas (7-7) will take on the Mountaineers (1-13) Saturday at 11 a.m. before squaring off versus the host Blue Devils (10-5) Sunday at 1 p.m. CMU is riding a two-match winning streak after closing out the home portion of its schedule with wins over Miami and Ball State last weekend.
CMU vs. Appalachian State
- CMU leads the all-time series, 2-0
- Each of Central Michigan's wins came in 3-1 fashion on neutral sites

Scouting the Mountaineers
- Appalachian State is reeling, having lost its last seven contests, being outscored 31-8. They have been outscored 59-17 on the season.
- Brooklyn Shearer and Kelly Allaband lead the Mountaineers with four goals and nine points a piece. Shearer has also converted 1-of-2 penalty strokes.
- Bridgette Street has made fourteen starts in the cage for ASU, allowing 53 goals in 868:26 of play for a goals-against average of 4.27.
CMU vs. Duke
- Duke leads the all-time series, 2-0, outscoring the Chippewas, 11-1.

Scouting the Blue Devils
- Duke is coming off its biggest win of the season after defeating previously undefeated and No. 1 ranked Old Dominion Sunday, 2-1, in overtime. With the win the Blue Devils jumped two spots to No. 5 in the latest NFHCA national poll
- Emmie Le Marchand leads the offense with 30 points on the season, scoring 12 goals and tallying six assists, both team highs. Devon Gagilardi has scored seven goals for Duke while Tara Jennings has six.
- The Blue Devils rank ninth in the country in goals-against average (1.19) thanks in large part to the play of keeper Samantha Nelson. The reigning ACC Player of the Week has allowed just 19 goals in 1085:05 of play while making 48 saves and posting five shutouts.
Super Lee
Senior Paulina Lee closed her career at the CMU Field Hockey Complex in grand fashion last weekend, recording four points in wins over Miami and Ball State. The Pittsford, N.Y., native tallied an assist to spark a come-from-behind victory over the Redhawks before tallying another assist and scoring the game-winning goal versus the Cardinals.
Freshman of the Year?
Cayleigh Immelman continues to make a strong case to become CMU's first Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year since Kim Erasmus in 2006. Immelman scored two more goals last weekend versus Miami, giving her a team high 10 on the season. She leads all freshmen in the MAC in goals and points (26).
Lend a Helping Hand
The Chippewas have dished out 34 assists in 2011, ranking 19th among D-I programs with 2.43 per contest. Lee ranks third in the MAC with eight assists on the season, while Immelman is tied for sixth with six helpers.
Junior goalkeeper Anastasia Netto has become one of the most formidable goalkeepers in the country, ranking 17th in goals-against average (1.68). Netto made six saves in each of the Chippewas' wins last weekend over Miami and Ball State.
